From ground to grain.
Hand-sourced. Painstakingly selected. Slowly prepared. Turned with care.
The journey begins long before the lathe.
The story of a Cooley Reserve piece starts with the timber itself—where it grew, how it weathered, what time left behind in its grain.
Foraged
Barry seeks out timber with character rather than uniformity: storm-felled wood, locally sourced pieces and exceptional material whose history deserves continuation.
Seasoned & Kiln Dried
The timber is prepared with patience. Moisture is reduced carefully and the material is allowed to settle before it ever meets the lathe.
Turned
Only then is the final form discovered. Grain, figure, age and natural markings guide Barry's hand. The object is shaped around the timber—not the other way around.

Wood remembers.
A knot records a hard season. A dark streak marks minerals drawn from the ground. Ancient oak carries centuries in silence. The maker's task is not to erase those marks, but to give them a new life.
